It is really overcast in San Francisco this morning!  Since Aimee's on vacation, I thought I'd spend a little time looking at photos from our Paris trip.  These ones from this lovely shop, La Droguerie, really hit the spot on such a foggy morning.  How I'd love to be diving into some kind of crafty knitting project today (on my couch, with some bad television on in the background...).  Too bad I have lots of things on the list like sending out wallpaper samples, oh, and I must, must, must finish painting the bathroom ceiling.

So many gorgeous things to make!  This was better than a candy shop!

My friend Kristi emailed me the other day about Mud Puddle Books. They've acquired a vast collection of vintage cocktail books and are reproducing some of them. I love the cover designs, and with old school cocktails being all the rage nowadays, these would make a great birthday/housewarming/hostess gift!

summer soundtrack

It's official - the soundtrack to summer '09 around here is Passion Pit's Manners. And this wins Hygge & West's award for best use of slightly wallpaper-like surfaces in a music video.

gift box

My parents went to Japan last month and brought me back this gorgeous jewelry box. The pattern is made with inlaid wood and the detail is just amazing. I'm not a big collector, but this piece has inspired me to start bringing back little boxes from my travels.

coffee table in the city

For today's 3 + Wallpaper, I chose the Room & Board Bradshaw table (in walnut) as the starting point. First, I love that this table was inspired by Carrie's coffee table. Second, we haven't had a coffee table for the past 7 years - we got rid of ours when our first son started standing up and never got a new one. Now that both boys are no longer toddlers I've been on the lookout for the right coffee table for our living room, and I think this may be it.

I added ferm LIVING Feather wallpaper because I love the deep peacock blue color. The sofa is from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams - it's modern enough to go with the Bradshaw's mid-century lines, but feminine and cozy looking. And I really love the way the gray upholstery would look up against the color of the walnut. My coffee table book is Daido Moriyama's Hawaii. I saw this in the Paul Smith store in Paris and wish I had brought it home with me.

And if it was a special occassion, I'd have something like this on the table as well. Take a look at Christiana's picks here - spoiler alert, somehow we both ended up using the Feather wallpaper...

I went to lunch with a friend today and learned that he'd launched a new toy company - Lumberjack Logs! Your little one can build a cabin (above) or a barn with all natural, finish free maple blocks made right here in Minnesota. There are also 30 and 60 piece expansion packs so your kids can add a little sauna and boat house to that cabin if their little heart so desires. Blocks are some of the few toys that my boys actually enjoy playing with, so I'm eyeing these for Jackson's upcoming birthday.

face to face (almost)

Wade and I and a couple of our friends went to the Elton John and Billy Joel concert last Tuesday. Well, we sort of did... The concert took place at Wrigley Field (baseball stadium of the Chicago Cubs) and our seats were on one of the roof tops. Usually that's perfect if you're there to watch a baseball game... you're sitting right across the street from the stadium and the view is great. However for the concert, the stage was facing the home plate so we had a fantastic view of the crowd enjoying actually seeing Billy and Elton.

It was still a phenomenal experience. The sound was great, we could see the light show and the roof top was pretty packed, so it just felt like a big party. And it was all-you-can eat and drink too! I wish someone had told me they were going to serve food all night, because I filled up within the first twenty minutes and then the waiters kept coming out with new types of foods every half hour. They even had ice cream, cookies and brownies for dessert!

I'm really glad we could experience the two musical legends in concert. I hope some day I'll get to go again and be able to not only hear them, but actually see them!
