This weekend was supposed to have been spent at our friends' cabin, but my older son came down with strep throat on Saturday, so our plans were scrapped. On Sunday, we took our ancient inherited canoe out for a ride on Lake of the Isles and Lake Calhoun - or as my husband likes to say when he is trying to be fancy, we took the boat out for a spin.
The boys did a little fishing. Mostly they just reeled the line in while I yelled at them to not tip the canoe. One of our fishing poles broke early in the outing hence the look on my younger son's face while it's his brother's turn to hold the pole.
It was a perfect late spring day and we all had a great time. It reminded us how lucky we are to live where we do and it made the boys (and my husband and I) slightly less disappointed to have missed the cabin with their friends.
